Bendigo – Ophir Gold Mine – Ours Not Mine

Right now, there’s a very significant threat to our unique Central Otago landscape. Please watch the video below to find out more.

A massive, open-pit mine is planned for Bendigo. If it gets the fast-track go-ahead that the Australian mining company is seeking, it will have significant and long-lasting destructive impacts on a very special and totally unique part of our country.

The area in question is subject to a Heritage Covenant and there is an associated historic reserve. There is unique flora and fauna

We created the video below with the help of some very talented people so that you can understand what’s at stake. Please take the time to watch this video now.

What can YOU do to help?

If, having watched the video, you feel that you want to do something to stop the mine, there is quite a lot you can do. We’re not geared up at COES to deal with a threat of this size or nature, but we have joined together with other local organisations to do what we can. Please head over to Sustainable Tarras, the small local group working hard to oppose the mine.

There are many ways you can help, and it only takes a couple of minutes. The first step is to add your voice by joining the Sustainable Tarras list, but there are many other things you can do. Click here.

Thank you.
